Under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2009, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services launched an Innovations Center that aims to scale new care and payment models that improve and sustain Medicare and Medicaid/CHIP programs and ultimately the healthcare system at large.

The Agency of Healthcare Research and Quality, part of the US Department of Health and Human Services, established the Health Care Innovations Exchange to help accelerate the development and adoption of innovations in the delivery of health care. Use this site to search for innovations and quality improvement tools related to such things as specific populations or diseases, health care settings, and a range of patient care processes. It also contains information on upcoming events, AHRQ funding opportunities.

The Institute for Healthcare Improvement

The Institute for Healthcare Improvement is a not-for-profit organization working internationally to bring about measurable health system change focused on improving the individual, health of individuals, populations and communities. It works to build the will for change, identify and cultivate promising practices, and put ideas into action. Its website contains a host of free resources and tools.

The Commonwealth Fund

The Commonwealth Fund describes itself as "a private foundation that aims to promote a high performing health care system that achieves better access, improved quality, and greater efficiency, particularly for society's most vulnerable, including low-income people, the uninsured, minority Americans, young children, and elderly adults. The Fund supports independent research on health care issues and makes grants to improve health care practice and policy. An international program in health policy is designed to stimulate innovative policies and practices in the United States and other industrialized countries."

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation invests in improving healthcare delivery systems and fostering environments that promote health and prevent disease and injury. It builds evidence and produces, synthesizes and distributes knowledge, new ideas and expertise, particularly around the foundation's areas of focus: childhood obesity, coverage, human capital, pioneer, public health, quality/equality, and vulnerable populations.
